July 4, 2010—-Elizabethtown, KY to Springfield, KY (45 Miles)
Flee from youthful passions, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
-2 Timothy 2:22
It has been a considerable amount of time since I last updated the blog, but I promise to all those who are reading and have followed me along it will be complete.
Anyways back to the current date….Happy Independence Day! 234 years have passed since our founding fathers declared freedom from Great Britain and there are many many things to be thankful for since that day occurred. I staggered out of bed at around 7 ate a hearty breakfast provided by my mother then headed to Bob’s place to meet the others and to continue the journey. After a couple early morning jokes and then finally last goodbyes we all hit 62 heading northeast for New Haven. On the ride out with us were some familiar faces. Bob Anderegg, one of our chapter advisors rode with us for about 31 miles on a beatup rinky dink huffy (can you say beast), Austin Howell, former WKU Spirit Master continued with us from the day before, Alex Burgess, friend of Tyler and Cameron who has had some triathlon experience, and lastly Chaz’s dad who rode with us on the original bike he rode back in his youth on his weeklong adventure. It was truly an enjoyable experience catching up with some of our friends while on the bike and to take the day nice and slow. I was astonished to tell how my body had recovered over the past days and I seemed stronger already, maybe because the terrain was relatively flat. Eventually we passed the small town of New Haven paused at a convenient store, downed a cliff bar smothered with peanut butter then continued the days leg eastward. At the next SAG spot we were down to only 8 riders as Bob and Chaz’s dad fulfilled their duties and left. The next miles seemed to pass by quickly as me and Cameron took the front whipping past small hills and attacking the flats.
The day could have ended any better. As I was sitting down in the AC of Mcdonalds right around the Springfield area I peer out the window and the next thing I see is Tyler flipping over Austin’s mtn bike handlebars straight down in a ditch. After a few seconds of waiting, I saw some type of monster climbing out of the ditch with mud/nasty sewage caked from foot to elbow. Man, that was a funny sight to see. I don’t even want to talk about the smell. Tyler, I’ll give you about a 7 out of 10 on that acrobatic stunt.
Leaving McDonalds we headed to one of Cameron’s fraternity brothers farmhouse (no pun intended Cam) for the night in order to celebrate the significance of the day. It was a very enjoyable night as we watched Anchorman then talked alot out on their front porch pertaining to many important stuff about life, fraternity, and maturity. Thanks Alex for opening up your house for us to stay. Happy Murica day…only 12 more days of riding!!
