Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such town a town and spend a year there and trade and make profit”- yet you do ont know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life?

We left the First Assembly of God in Eads fairly early after consuming a light breakfast of oatmeal and bagels. After a few minor mechanical issues, we journeyed out for Scott City instead of our designated destination of Leoti. For one we wanted to speed our travels in Kansas and also to have a rest day after 4 or 5 days. The current plan allowed zero rest days in a 12 day stretch„definitely not a smart idea. However, we would only have to sacrifice extra mileage in order for this new plan to be a success. The first 20 miles up until the first SAG spot proved to be fairly simple with only a few periodic rolling hills. Tyler’s parents provided us once again with a second breakfast consisting of bagels, bars, and bananas which I consumed happily. The next 20 miles me, Wade, Chaz, and Tyler pushed ourselves in an Indian Run style fashion paceline which we later deemed Kiowai Kruising. Reaching an average speed of 20 it quickly passed the time away until we arrived at the Kansas/Colorado border. Helllooooo Kansas! 4 states down, only 5 more left including KS. We of course snapped some celebratory pictures as a group then left the area as soon as possible to put some more miles behind before lunch.
The terrain was similar to eastern Colorado in terms of gradient, however the landscape was full of rows and rows of wheat fields. As the wind forcefully blew through the vast fields it seemed like I was lying near the ocean listening to the melodious sound of crashing waves. Cameron was right in describing Kansas, it resembled a Kindergarten’s drawing with the simple components of the ground and a blue sky. From the first 20 miles after leaving the border, I knew this was going to be a long time and it would soon turn into monotony. Soon enough, we traversed through the small cities of Tribune, Leoti, and Marienthal then made our way into our destination of Scott City. There we had the wonderful surprise of meeting some other TransAm cyclists and one younger individual who actually was unicycling across the nation. I have no idea how he has made it this far.
After conversing, we headed over to our lodging for the night at a First Baptist Youth Center. The place was indescribable with a ping pong table, 2 pool tables, ample amount of rooms, shower, and a kitchen. Thanks Pastor Rick for allowing us to stay for the night, it was a true blessing. The rest of the day we consumed spaghetti for supper and I tried to catch up on my blog and hit the sack early as we had a long day ahead of us tomorrow. Until tomorrow, have a good day.
