Departing early out of the RV Park, we were all quite happy to leave the flea infested campsite (this is no bluff lol) and head out to enter CO. After leaving 163 we forked off to the right and continued eastbound on 162. After several miles of up and downs and passing several randomly placed oil pumps we crossed paths through the town of Montezuma Creek. The town was extremely small with only a few residents and a couple of restaurants. Soon enough we arrived in colorful Colorado! 3 states done, 6 left! Personally, I wish we had some more mileage in Utah.

The roads of Colorado were relatively smooth compared to the previous states which increased my cadence and the scenery was much greener. Due to the gain of receiving a second wind, I took out in front of the pack and headed to Cortez, our projected lunch spot. I arrived early and rested my bones in front of Arby’s as I waited up for all the other fellows. Lunch was definitely delicious as I downed some turkey bacon goodness-of-a sandwich. All of the guys seemed to be exhausted and remarked that todays leg was actually more difficult than the climb out of Flagstaff. I did not agree and felt in excellent shape, besides my right hip giving me a little trouble.
18 more miles left and it seemed like forever. Mancos eventually arrived and it was refreshing to have another Baptist Church to lay our heads for the night.

Thank you Pastor Rick for your generous hospitality in opening up the church to 7 strangers. Supper for the night consisted of eating at an elegant Millwood Restaurant, the only in town, where I had the wonderful opportunity of consuming a bacon cheeseburger and unlimited salad bar. http://www.youtube.com/fijisacrossamerica#p/a/u/1/i_6RSYNLC9g
Thanks Mr. Vittitow for shelling out all the bucks for all of us, it for sure was not cheap. We all arrived back to the church in a “snakefarm” fashion, and retired for the night fairly early as we all were ready for the upcoming rest day in Pagosa Springs. We’ve got some more mountains to climb!
